Horror author Stephen King said Thursday he was «the most relieved man» in Britain when he heard that US President George W Bush’s Republicans had suffered major defeats in mid-term elections. «Until yesterday, the most scary thing in the world for me was George W Bush,» the American told an audience in London, where he is promoting his new book, «Lisey’s Story». «I was the most relieved man in Great Britain when I got up yesterday and saw that the American electorate had cuffed that man’s nose.» The hugely successful 59-year-old author of works including «Misery» and «The Shining» added that he could «barely credit» that Donald Rumsfeld had resigned from his post as defense secretary. The first thought which crossed his mind when he heard the news was a line from the film «The Wizard Of Oz» — «thank God ‘the witch is dead'», he said.
